Settings group the technical choices that define how a library behaves.
Remote storage
Configure S3-compatible storage, NAS, or local folder destinations. Test connections before relying on them.
Storage media
Integrity checks tell you a file is intact; they say nothing about the age of the disk holding it. These two facts describe different risks — one a corruption that has already happened, the other the one that is coming.
Declare your media here so the app can announce their replacement: a name, a tier (N1 working storage, N2 local archive, N3 offsite copy), a kind (internal or external disk, SSD, NAS, LTO tape, optical disc, cloud storage), a commissioning date and a location.
The deadline follows from the kind — five years for a disk, ten for an LTO tape, twenty-five for an optical disc — and stays editable if you know your hardware better. A medium nearing the end of its service life rises into the Health screen’s “to handle” list: a warning three months ahead, an alert after.
Three behaviours worth knowing:
- with no commissioning date, no deadline is invented — the medium stays “undetermined” and is never flagged;
- cloud storage has no replacement deadline, durability there being the provider’s responsibility;
- tiers with no declared medium are named, not merely counted: three brand-new media all at the same tier is one copy.
Retire keeps the medium in the history without ever flagging it again — preferable to deleting it, since it carried copies.
Logs and diagnostics
Use logs for support and troubleshooting. Avoid sharing secrets, tokens, or sensitive client paths.
